Daycare Delights
We went for a tour of the daycare facility near our home today. From my research, it is the only one near us that caters to infants (e.g. under 18 months old). Actually there is another one but I like this one because it is a non-profit daycare and has a volunteer Board of Directors.
My partner was skeptical as he has bad memories of when he was in daycare (otherwise known as "creche" in South Africa). Images of wild kids running around and left to their own devices, he was recalling scenes of "Lord of the Flies."
C'mon, I said, would you think that I could remotely put our child in a daycare like that? Gimme some credit.
And to his pleasant surprise, the Yonge Hearts Centre was nothing like that. In fact, it was the exact opposite. Brightly lit, colourfully decorated, and culturally sensitive, this place even has vegetarian catering! We both heartily agreed it was better than a nanny. We visited all the rooms and all of the children were being intellectually catered to - from infants experimenting with different textures to toddlers singing holiday tunes. There was even one room where a bunch of the cutest little kids were sitting quietly waiting for their lunch!
Yes, we were impressed. This would definitely be worth the second mortgage that we would essentially shell out to this daycare.
